DURHAM – Duke swimming and diving began the 2022-23 slate this evening with the annual Blue vs. White intrasquad at the Taishoff Aquatic Center. The Blue Team defeated the White team, 142-117, for its second consecutive intrasquad victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue Team built a 24-12 lead through two events after the 200 yard women’s medley relay and 200 yard men’s medley relay teams took home first and third.
  • Junior Sarah Foley added to the Blue Team’s lead swimming a 2:45.20 time in the 300 yard freestyle to finish first and score five points.
  • In men’s 300 yard freestyle, sophomore Blake Johnson (2:37.14) and graduate David Hallaron (2:37.16) finished one and two in the event, separated by two one-hundredths of a second.
  • Freshman Kaelyn Gridley finished first in the women’s 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 27.87, to give the White team five points. On the Men’s side, senior Will Tenpas (25.75) and sophomore Michael Volpe (25.76) battled down the stretch and finished separated by one one-hundredth of a second, giving the edge to the White Team.
  • Redshirt senior Easop Lee finished first in the women’s 150 yard backstroke swimming a time of 1:24.47, two seconds clear of second place.
  • The White Team gathered a key 10 points in the mixed 200 yard mystery relay after the Blue Team was disqualified due to equipment failure.
  • Senior Brad Sanford finished first in the men’s 150 yard butterfly swimming a time of 1:16.97 and securing five points for the White Team.
