Phelps got to the wall first, going 1:58.00. Lochte, swimming in an outside lane, was 1:58.43 to take silver.

Michael Phelps finished fourth overall in the 200m freestyle at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin with a time of 1:48.87. With that time he was just kept off the podium as Jordan Pothain stretched in to the wall ahead of him in 1:48.62.
