Switzerland’s Lisa Mamie Claims 200 Breast Silver In New Record

2021 LEN EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Making it onto the podium tonight with the silver medal in the women’s 200m breaststroke was Lisa Mamie of Switzerland.

Earning her nation’s first-ever European Championships medal in this women’s event, Mamie stopped the clock in a time of 2:22.05 to place in the runner-up slot behind winner Molly Renshaw of Great Britain. Renshaw topped the field in a time of 2:21.34 while Russia’s Yuliya Efimova rounded out the top 3 in 2:22.16.

For Mamie, her previous personal best headed into this meet was represented by the 2:24.47 she produced in August of 2020 at that year’s Sette Colli Trophy. Already in the semi-finals here in Budapest, the 22-year-old put up a swim of 2:23.15 to lower that by more than a second. That result was comprised of splits of 1:09.15/1:14.00 for a new Swiss record.

Tonight, Mamie opened in a swifter 1:08.71 and closed in 1:13.34  for her 2:22.05, further separating herself from the past Swiss performers in this event.

Mamie also contested the 100m breaststroke here, nearly posting another national record with a time of 1:06.77. Her Swiss standard sits at 1:06.60 from the aforementioned Sette Colli. Mamie finished 12th here in that 100m breaststroke event.
