Swimming From Home: Anna Hopkin on Training with Mel Marshall… From Home

We are all trying to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic as best we can. Staying at home and not socializing is not an easy task for anyone, and keeping a swimmer out of the pool is equally antagonizing. Therefore, SwimSwam is starting the Swimming From Home Talk Show, where host Coleman Hodges speaks with the swimming community about how they’re coping with our current goggle-less reality.

Arkansas razorback Anna Hopkin, like many other NCAA athletes, had her collegiate season cut short before she had a full chance to see what she was capable of. After NCAA’s were cancelled, Hopkin quickly returned to her home in the United Kingdom where she was able to get in a long course time trial before all pools were shut down, posting a 53.3 100 free, just shy of her best. Since her return to Europe, she’s been doing what she can with her new training group under the tutelage of Mel Mashall (known for coaching Adam Peaty).

Are these available on any podcast app? I’m really enjoying the content and would love to be able to listen while I’m walking my dog.

It’s not (though you could run YouTube on your phone), but that’s a great idea – we’ll look at doing that.

Update: Coleman’s going to start uploading to our podcast channels, which you can get on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Pod Bean. Search “Fish Out of Water: The SwimSwam Podcast.” If you search “SwimSwam” it should come up too.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing it!

She’s training under Mel Marshall!!! That could be really great for Anna as Mel has really proven that she can coach swimmers to their very best with Adam Peaty and Luke Greenbank. That combined with Anna’s NCAA experience at Arkansas could be an incredibly strong and dangerous combo.

It’ll be interesting to see how the move away from Arkansas will impact her swimming. She made a lot of progress very quickly in the States. I’m sure Neil Harper and Mel Marshall have been in close contact discussing what works for Anna though. Hopefully the move works out!
