Summer Juniors Qualifier Will Kainen Commits to CSU-Bakersfield

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Will Kainen from White River Junction, Vermont has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at California State University Bakersfield beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

I chose CSUB because of the amazing coaching staff, team culture, and academic opportunities outside of the pool.”

Kainen swims for Upper Valley Aquatic Club (UVAC) out of White River Junction, VT. In March, he attended the Christiansburg Sectional meet. There he earned best times in the 50 freestyle (22.17) as well as 100 (56.73) and 200 (2:05.25) breaststrokes. Those swims also earned him second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and a 21st-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

This summer, he attended the Niagara Long Course Senior Zone Championships. There he earned best times in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.45) and 100 butterfly (1:01.90). His 100 breaststroke time earned him a second-place finish as well as his first Summer Juniors cut.

Kainen began his senior year this fall at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut, which he attends as a boarding student. In addition to swimming at Suffield, he also did rock climbing competitively in the fall and spring of his freshman year as well as water polo in the fall of his sophomore year.

His best short course times are:

  • 100 breaststroke: 56.73
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:05.25
  • 200 IM: 1:57.48
  • 50 freestyle: 22.17

California State University Bakersfield is a public university located in Bakersfield, California. The school is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). CSU-Bakersfield did not compete in any meets this past season due to COVID-19. At the 2020 WAC Championships, the CSU-Bakersfield men finished sixth out of seven teams.

Kainen’s best short course times are just off what it took to score at the 2020 conference meet. It took a time of 55.84 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:03.07 in the 200 breaststroke. He would have been fourth in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes on CSU-Bakersfield’s roster.

Kainen will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
