Summer Juniors Finalist Gabriel Campos Commits To Penn State For 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Gabriel Campos from Coppell, Texas has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Penn State beginning in fall 2026.

“I’m incredibly excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! Huge thank you to all the people who pushed me and believed in me. Lastly i’d like to thank my family, my teammates, Coach Hollie, Coach Schimmel, and my amazing coaches at both HS and Metro; Coach Kim, Coach Caroline, Coach Bren, and Coach Jon for making this all possible.”

Campos swims for Metroplex Aquatics and represents Chile at the international level. He finished his long course season at Summer Juniors where he was highlighted by an 11th place finish in the 200 breast swimming a 2:17.68, a lifetime best. At the start of October, Campos made his international debut for Chile and helped he boys 4×100 medley relay team to silver.

He began his senior year at Coppell High School this fall and looks to return to the state final of the 200 IM in February. This past February, he was 6th in a 1:51.42 and swam a lifetime best 1:50.79 in prelims. He has been a state qualifier in all three years of high school so far.

Campos’ Best SCY Times Are:

  • 100 breast: 55.86
  • 200 breast: 1:59.55
  • 200 IM: 1:50.72

The Penn State men finished 9th out of 9 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships with 512.5 points, less than 100 points behind Purdue (597 points). Current senior Matthew Bitner led the way for Penn State and was highlighted by a 7th place finish in the 100 back.

Based on his best times, Coppell is not far off what it took to score in the 200 breast as it took a 1:57.62 to earn a second swim. The 100 breast only had 22 scoring swimmers. Penn State only had two finalists in each breaststroke event, scoring 32 points in the 100 breast but only 13 in the 200 breast.

Coppell will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Roman Dawson (free) and Charlie Begin (free/IM/back).
