Elisabeth Timmer was a three-time winner and six other Jackrabbit swimmers claimed individual event titles as South Dakota State ended a long layoff with a 178.5-119.5 victory over St. Cloud State in women’s dual action Friday at the Stanley J. Marshall Center Pool.
A senior from Savaneta, Aruba, Timmer notched all three of her victories in the freestyle events. She began her day by winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 56.21 seconds, followed by a victory in the 50 freestyle in 24.43 seconds. Timmer’s final individual title came in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 53.04 seconds.
Also earning a victory in the freestyle events for the Jackrabbits was Zoey Ahrens, who claimed the 500 freestyle in 5:20.18.
The Jackrabbits were especially strong in the backstroke events as they posted a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard race and swept the top three spots in the 200. Kelsey Kocon swam her way to victory in the 100 with a time of 58.82 seconds, while Sianne Downes was right behind in 59.25 seconds.
In the 200, Downes came out on top in 2:07.68, with Emma Walz (2:09.19) taking second and Kocon (2:10.46) placing third.
Kocon and Emma Bachelder formed half of two winning relays for the Jackrabbits. The duo paired with Morgan Nelson and Sara Juez for a victory in the 200 medley relay, 1:49.50, and also teamed with Walz and Timmer to close out the meet with a winning time of 3:36.18 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Nelson and Juez each tallied individual wins of their own. Nelson claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.06, edging teammate Marissa Branham by .04 seconds. Juez came out victorious in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.69 after posting a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly, 2:19.53, earlier in the meet.
Branham tallied a victory of her own in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:28.60.

The Jackrabbits close out the home portion of their schedule by hosting in-state rival South Dakota on Jan. 21. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
South Dakota State won six of the final nine events to pull away down the stretch for a 162.5-137.5 dual victory over visiting St. Cloud State in men’s swimming and diving action Friday at the Stanley J. Marshall Center Pool.
Competing for the first time in nearly two months, the Jackrabbits received a pair of victories in the diving events by Spencer Fritze and recorded sweeps of the top-three spots in the two butterfly events.
A senior from Park Rapids, Minnesota, Fritze tallied a season-best score of 308.55 points en route to victory on the 1-meter board and added a score of 293.55 in the 3-meter competition. Teammate Zach Boyd placed second in both events with respective scores of 271.05 and 278.63.
In the swimming events, SDSU freshmen accounted for three individual victories. Jon Galles started the Jackrabbits out on the right foot by winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 44.99 seconds, while Jack Ellison added an event title in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:467.46.
Braxton McGrath spearheaded the Jackrabbits going 1-2-3 in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 1:57.50. Damon Venner was second in 1:58.49, followed by Max White in third at 2:00.57.
A freshman from Amana, Iowa, McGrath also placed third in the 100 butterfly (:51.91) behind teammates Austin Smith (:50.33) and Luke Nichols (:51.47). Smith added a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley (1:57.85).
Also victorious for the Jackrabbits was sophomore sprinter Eric Anderson in the 100 freestyle. He clocked a winning time of 47.87 seconds after posting a runner-up time of 21.40 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
Anderson later anchored SDSU’s winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Rafael Negri, Alex Kraft and Sam Johnson for a top time of 3:08.96.
Raf Hendricks was a three-time individual winner for St. Cloud State (1,000 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke) and also swam the leadoff leg of the Huskies’ winning 200 medley relay.

Brookings, SD – The St. Cloud State Swim & Dive team traveled to Brookings, SD to compete against South Dakota State on January 13th. Both the men’s and women’s teams came up short, losing to the Jackrabbits. The final score for men’s was 162.5-137.5. As for the women, the score ended as 162.5-137.5.
Top Huskies
- Junior Raf Hendriks earned wins in multiple events over the weekend. Hendriks won the 1000-yard Freestyle (9:28.45) and the 100-yard backstroke (50.70)
- Senior Abe Townley earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.38
- Junior Emile Dost picked up a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.17
- Sophomore Meredith Bangs won the 200-yard IM, finishing with a time of 2:13.53
- Sophomore Kailey Fossell swept the diving events, winning both 1-meter (228.68) and 3-meter (215.70)

The Huskies have wrapped up regular season competition for swimming, while the divers have one more meet. The Huskies divers will be hosting the St. Cloud State Diving Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Halenbeck Hall Pool.
