Six-Time North Dakota State Champion Isaiah Ayers Adds to Purdue’s 2027 Recruiting Class

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Isaiah Ayers, a six-time North Dakota State Champion for West Fargo High School, has committed to Purdue University as a part of the Boilermakers 2027 recruiting class.

Ayers wrote the following to SwimSwam regarding his commitment:

I am especially grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and teammates for all their support along the way. A huge thank you to Coach Alex and Coach James for this incredible opportunity! Boiler Up!

Ayers hails from Harwood, North Dakota; since his first year of high school, Ayers has yet to finish anywhere but the top of the podium at the NDHSAA Boys State Championship. As a freshman, Ayers won both the 100 fly (50.98) and the 200 free (1:41.22). The following season, as a sophomore, he won the 100 breast (56.25) and 100 fly (48.39). Most recently, as a junior, he won the 100 breaststroke (55.88) and claimed his first 500 free title (4:31.04).

In December, Ayers competed at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships West for the West Fargo Flyers, where he clocked a pair of career bests in both the 100 fly and 200 fly. He finished 20th in the 100 fly, clocking his first-ever sub-48-second time in 47.98, earning him a 20th-place finish. In the 200 fly, he swam a lifetime best in the prelims of 1:48.73. He also swam a best 200 IM time at that meet, touching in 1:49.32.

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Fly: 47.98
  • 200 Fly: 1:48.73
  • 100 Free: 45.00
  • 200 Free: 1:39.92
  • 500 Free: 4:30.21
  • 100 Breast: 55.68
  • 200 IM: 1:48.08

The Purdue men finished 6th out of nine teams at the 2026 Men’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships this past February.

Based on Ayers’ best times, he would have finished 28th in the 200 IM, 36th in the 100 fly, and 40th in the 500 free.

Ayers has many different avenues he could take. Having some breaststroke ability, along with strong fly and free skills, Ayers should have the freedom to swim a variety of events at a productive level to fit whatever needs Purdue asks of him.

Purdue could use Ayers in plenty of events at those Big Ten Championships. The Boilermakers only scored 16 points in the 500 free, the 3rd-lowest among all teams; 15 points in the 200 IM, the 2nd-lowest among all teams; and 13 points in the 100 fly, the lowest among the nine teams at the Big Ten Championships.

Ayers still has plenty of time to progress, and judging by his already apparent growth during his high school years, he could get within scoring range before he steps on campus.

Ayers joins Jack Street as the lone two publicized commitments in the 2027 class for Purdue.
