Siena Roars Past Stonehill On Senior Day

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Swimming & Diving found the win column at home for the second time this season while honoring its large senior class on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (9-5) took a 197-86 victory over Stonehill to conclude regular season dual meet action at the Siena Swim Center.

Prior to the meet, seniors Elisabeth BalicantaMaggie CaputoLydia DelanoRory KalacReilly KingSydney MurinkaEllie MurphyLauren Ostrander, and Jessica Shine were honored in a special Senior Day ceremony, making up the largest graduating class in program history.

Siena won 13 of 14 events that it officially competed in, beginning with the 200-medley relay group of Balicanta, junior Audrey Shultz, junior Demi Bobarakis, and Kalac swimming a time of 1:50.95. Sophomore Maddie Buck claimed the top spot in the 1000 free with a time of 10:59.95, while Ostrander and King officially tied in the 200 free with an identical time of 2:00.91.

Freshman Kaci Owens (28.55) triumphed in the 50 back, while Balicanta (1:01.41) took the top spot in the 100 fly, and Kalac (24.36) brought home the gold in the 50 free. Junior Talia Spenziero finished first in both the one-meter (252.60) and three-meter (264.15) diving events, while Delano recorded solid marks of 242.65 and 247.50, respectively.

The 100 free also went to Kalac (52.96), while Shultz won the 100 back (1:01.47) and sophomore Olivia Martin claimed the top spot in the 100 breast (1:09.33). King won the 500 free (5:24.52), while Bobarakis claimed the 50 fly (27.14) heading into the second break of the day. Siena exhibitioned the final two events of the afternoon, with Shultz (1:01.68) clocking the top time in the 100 IM, and the team of sophomore Kylie Carter, freshman Mya Reed, Owens, and sophomore Shaylea Triller (1:42.11) did so in the 200 free relay.

Having finished the 2022-23 regular season with the most dual meet victories since the 2009-10 campaign, Siena will set its sights on the 2023 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships, which are set for February 8-11 in Buffalo, New York. The team will look to best a sixth-place finish from last season, which was the team’s best MAAC place since 2016.

LATHAM, N.Y. (January 28, 2023) – The Stonehill College women’s swimming team traveled to Latham, New York for a dual meet against Siena College at the Marcelle Athletic Center, putting up a fight until the end.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Jami Hepburn swam in the 50-yard breaststroke and finished at the top with a first-place finish, with a time of 31.84. Hepburn also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke event, placing third with a time of 1:11.43.
  • Senior Sydney Stockwell competed in the 100-yard IM, placing first with a time of 1:05.08. Stockwell also swam in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in third place overall with a time of 26.10.
  • Junior Nika Sokolova, Koser, Karuzis, and Freshman Taylor Belanger swam in the 200-yard freestyle relay, placing first overall with a time of 1:47.37
  • Freshman Mazy Karuzis took to the pool and swam in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.02, finishing in second place.
  • Freshman Azia Koser swam in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.85, placing second.
  • Sophomore Sofiya Gobora swam in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:07.53, finishing in second place.
  • Sophomore Sharlotte Lundell also competed in the 100-yard IM, finishing in third place with a time of 1:07.68.
  • Junior Katie Keating also competed in the 50-yard butterfly event, finishing in third place with a time of 28.99.
  • Freshman Kristy Barry, Hepburn, Stockwell, and Karuzis swam in the 200-yard medley relay, placing third with a time of 1:55.01.
  • Junior Nika Sokolova placed third overall in the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:04.43
