Sara Franceschi Posts Italian Record In Women’s 200 IM – 2:10.05

2023 ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Competing on day three of the 2023 Italian Championships, Sara Franceschi fired off a new national record in the women’s 200m IM.

The 24-year-old Olympian stopped the clock in a super swift result of 2:10.05, establishing a new lifetime best in the process. Entering this competition, Franceschi’s career-quickest rested at the 2:10.26 notched at the 2021 Sette Colli Trophy.

However, splitting 28.32/33.52/36.94/31.27 tonight, Franceschi was able to shave .21 off of that previous PB en route to gold. Behind her for silver was Anita Gastaldi who touched in 2:11.81 while Anna Pirovano bagged bronze in 2:13.73.

Franceschi’s effort knocked .20 off of the previous Italian standard Ilaria Cusinato put on the books at the 2018 European Championships. Her result also dipped under the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 2:12.98 needed for this summer’s World Championships.

Post-race, Franceshi stated, ”I’m really happy and now there’s only one goal in my head: the World Championship. I will go there with a smile.”

Franceschi was the bronze medalist last year at the European Championships where she put up a time of 2:11.38. Her outing here would have taken the gold there in Rome.

She now ranks 8th in the world on the season with her 2:10.05 NR.
