FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women’s swimming and diving team earned a 178.5–121.5 victory over Stony Brook University in non-conference action at the McCann Natatorium in Milford, Conn.

Ryleigh Mahoney was a double winner on the diving boards, capturing first place in both the 1-meter six-dive event (232.50) and the 1-meter five-dive event (171.90).

The relay of Sophia Velleco, Maggie Holland, Kristen Baker, and Emma Haas was first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49:29.

Velleco also took home first-place finishes in the 200 fly (2:09:81) and 500 free (5:20:76).

Maddie Goret won both the 100 Back (59:24) and the 200 Breast (2:27:15), and was second in the 200 IM (2:12:39).

Sophie Tonello earned her first collegiate win with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.60).

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, when they visit Iona University in New Rochelle, N.Y. Diving events begin Friday at 5 p.m., followed by swimming events on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

MILFORD, Conn. — The Stony Brook Swimming & Diving team opened the 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Connecticut to compete against Sacred Heart. The Seawolves secured six event wins but ultimately fell to the Pioneers by a 178.5-121.5 scoreline.

Stony Brook recorded six first-place finishes on Friday. Alanna DePinto was the Seawolves’ top performer, winning three out of the four events she competed in. She secured victories in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle, and also contributed to a relay win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Michelle Vu also had a solid picking up two event wins in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Carson Kien won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.00).
  • DePinto took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.92).
  • Vu swam to a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (25.32).
  • DePinto secured another win in the 100-yard freestyle (54.90).
  • Elaine Liu won the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.11).
  • Avari Wischhof, Vu, DePinto, and Francesca Baber teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.13).


UP NEXT

Stony Brook will return to the pool on Oct. 18 for an away matchup against Central Connecticut State.
