S10 American Record-holder Serafina King Commits to Wyoming

Serafina King, who swims with Beach Cities Swimming in Redondo Beach, California, has officially committed to the University of Wyoming for the fall of 2017. King is a Paralympic swimmer who competes in the S10 class, and holds American SCY records in the 50 and 100 backstrokes. A medalist from both the 2014 Para Pan Pacific Championships and the 2015 Para Pan American Games, King was the fastest S10 woman at the 2016 Paralympic Trials in all S10 freestyle and backstroke events. King was sidelined for most of the summer after having an appendectomy in July following the Trials.

One of the major factors that influenced King’s decision to choose the Wyoming swim program was the opportunity to be coached by newly-named head coach Dave Deniston. Deniston was the Olympic Training Center’s Resident Paralympic coach for many years, and having the chance to train with a coach familiar with the Paralympic program and King’s swimming was a huge draw. Also, King was impressed by the support the athletes are given at Wyoming whether in the pool, gym, or classroom, and the overall enthusiasm of the team.

King is excited to be a Cowgirl in fall of 2017!

King’s American records:

  • 50y s10 back – 32.00
  • 100y S10 back – 1:05.00

Congratulations! It’s great to see more US para swimmers become part of collegiate swim programs across the country.
