Russian Team Sets Sights On São Caetano do Sul Camp En Route To Rio

Russia’s Olympic swimming squad will train in São Caetano do Sul, Brazil before its final stop in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic Games, per the Russian Head Coach, Sergie Kolmogorov.

According to Kolmogorov, a two-phased approach to acclimatizing his team for the climactic and time zone changes of Rio involves the Russian team of up to 27 members first training in Rio Maior, Portugal  July 21st through July 26th before heading to São Caetano on July 27th. The team will then ultimately begin training in Rio’s Olympic swimming pool on August 4th.

All of the work to make corrections in individual swimmers’ plans will be completed before the end of this month, says Kolmogorov, however. “Now I conduct meetings with each of the coaches and we agree on the necessary adjustments to be made to individual training plans for each athlete.  The critical preparation plan of the national team before the Olympics will not change. ”

Having only been appointed to his Head Coaching post in late September, Kolmogorov is confident that he is ready to lead the conditioning effort of the Russian team with just less than a year to go until Rio.  “I know the individual characteristics of many of our athletes associated with the technique of swimming, functional training, their training programs. I am in absolutely regular communication with both with the athletes and their coaches. Therefore, time to adapt to me is not necessary.”

The Olympic Games kick off in Rio on August 5th, with swimming competition beginning on August 6, 2016.
