Adam Peaty Suffers Finger Injury During Sette Colli 50 Breaststroke Prelim

67th SETTE COLLI TROPHYĀ

The 67th Sette Colli Trophy saw day one unfold in Rome, Italy, but not everything went according to plan for a World Record holder and Olympic champion.

Adam Peaty of Great Britain took on the prelims of the men’s 50m breaststroke, where he settled for a 10th-place finish with a morning effort of 27.30.

That sat well behind the top three performers out of the heats, a trio which included neutral athleteĀ Ivan Kozhakin (26.52), ItalianĀ Ludovico Blu Art Viberti (26.69) andĀ BelarusianĀ Ilya Shymanovich (26.82).

The effort was also well outside 31-year-old Peaty’s season-best of 26.64 from April’s Aquatics GB Championships, a time which positioned him as the 7th-fastest man in the world at the moment.

However, an Instagram story by Peaty revealed that the megastar suffered a finger injury during this morning’s event, one which now renders him out of tonight’s B-Final.

“Minor argument with the wall in the race today, unfortunately will need to drop the final tonight but I hope to be back in the 100m tomorrow morning.

“Still learning.

“A big thank you to the medical team who were incredible and got an X-ray faster than I’ve ever seen or experienced,” read his story.

Peaty is ranked 6th in the world in the 100m breast, having posted a mark of 58.97 at the aforementioned Aquatics GB Championships, qualifying for the Commonwealth Games and European Championships in the process. That checked in as his speediest performance since the semi-finals of the race at the 2024 Olympic Games. There in Paris, Peaty put up a semi-final swim of 58.86 before being relegated to silver in 59.05, tying AmericanĀ Nic Fink behind winnerĀ Nicolo Martinenghi of Italy who won in a relatively sluggish time of 59.03.

Martinenghi is also entered in the 100m breast for tomorrow’s agenda, so we’ll see if Peaty exacts revenge after he withdrew from the 2025 World Championships.

Idk, he had a pretty good stretch of nothing happening to him, let’s remember the 2015 – 2021 run
