Rider Women Sweep MAAC Tri-Meet With Siena, Sacred Heart

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet in Coppola Pool Saturday afternoon, topping Siena 220-76 and Sacred Heart 172-127. The Broncs improve to 2-3 and 2-2 in MAAC meets, while the Saints drop to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in league meets. The Pioneers split on the day to go to 5-2 overall and 2-2 against MAAC opponents.

The Broncs won 10 events in the meet, including setting a pair of pool records.

To open the day, the team of Aubree-Claire Alewine-Flores (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson), Liv Turner-Havira (Archbald, PA/Scranton Prep), Rachel Hutchins (Elkridge, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School), and Donja Tripp (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) combined to swim 1:46.54 to win the 200-medley relay.

Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) followed with a win in the 1,000-free, swimming 10:45.22.

In the 100-breast, Turner-Havira and Chloe Cheevers (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) finished one-two, stopping the clock at 1:07.49 and 1:08.23. Cheevers would later win the 200-breast with a time of 2:27.30.

Tripp was then the first to set a pool record, winning the 50-free in 23.57. Sonya Mishakova (Bali, Indonesia/Australian Independent School Bali) finished second, swimming 24.42. Out of the break, the duo then went one-two in the 100-free, touching the wall at 52.59 and 52.72.

In the 200-back, Alewine-Flores, Casey Morgan (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), and Chas Ruatos (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Conception) swept the event for the Broncs, going 2:08.26, 2:08.42, and 2:11.16.

Hutchins swam 58.79 to win the 100-fly.

The Broncs closed out the meet with the second of their pool records. Mishakova, Tripp, Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port), and Morgan combined to swim 3:33.51 to win the 400-free relay.

– Alewine-Flores and Ruatos were two-three in the 100-back.
– Ava Smith (Vineland, NJ/Cumberland County Tech) and Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) went two-three in the 200-fly. Ava Smith was also third in the 100-fly.
– Karyn Creelman (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was second on the 1-meter.
– Opdyke and Megan Smith finished two-three in the 500-free.
– Hutchins finished second in the 200-IM.

Siena Swimming & Diving fell to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes Rider and Sacred Heart (SHU) in tri-meet action Saturday in Lawrenceville, NY. The Saints posted scores of 194-103 against SHU and 220-76 against Rider.

Freshman Clara Samko posted the team’s highest finish of the day, taking second in the 100 fly in 59.59. She also finished third in the 100 free (53.41) and was part of the second-place 400 free relay team that also featured GayLynn KirnCamryn Raines, and Julia Filiault and finished in 3:40.03.

Siena posted various third-place finishes throughout the day, starting with Natalie Blume in the 1,000 free (11:13.45), while Kirn followed by taking third one race later in the 200 free (1:57.94). Freshman Julia Mihok enjoyed a third-place showing in the 200 breaststroke, finishing the race in 2:28.99.

Mea Amedio’s third-place finish in the 50 free was just over one second behind first place as she completed the race in 24.92 and later came 0.40 seconds away from another top-three finish in the 200 IM, finishing fourth in 2:14.51.

Siena also started the day with the team of Gabrielle RentosaKayla Lombardo, Samko, and Amedio finishing third in the 200 medley relay (1:49.04).

The Saints will travel to take on Stony Brook in a dual meet at noon on Saturday, Nov. 15.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women’s swimming and diving team turned in another strong performance on the road, splitting a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)  tri-meet against Rider University and Siena College on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Siena, 194-103, while narrowly falling to Rider, 172-127.

Leading the way for the Pios were a trio of double winners. Sophia Velleco dominated in the pool with victories in the 200 Butterfly (2:08.12) and 500 Freestyle (5:11.13). Maddie Goret added two first-place finishes of her own, touching first in the 100 Backstroke (59.08) and 200 Individual Medley (2:11.64). On the boards, Ryleigh Mahoney impressed yet again with wins on both the 1-meter (263.85) — the third-best mark in program history — and 3-meter (251.30) events.

Other strong performances came from Charlotte Kaduson, who placed second in the 1000 Freestyle (10:52.67), and Maggie Holland, who earned third in both the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.40) and 200 IM (2:13.91). Kara Leahy contributed valuable points on the diving side, taking third on the 1-meter and second on the 3-meter boards. Goret also added a runner-up finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:27.50) to cap a standout weekend.

Sacred Heart will be back in action on Saturday November 22nd at 12pm when they return home to the McCann Natatorium to face non-conference opponent University of Bridgeport and MAAC opponents Saint Peter’s University and Merrimack College.
