How It Happened
Rhode Island continued its winning ways, dominating Vermont, 192-108, at the Tootell Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Rams (9-0) won each of the first six events, and eight of the first nine events overall. In all, Rhody won 13 of the 16 events, was it led from start to finish.

Rhode Island took the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 1-meter dive and 500-yard freestyle events. The Rams took the top two places in three other events, as a total team effort helped Rhode Island extend the best start to a season in program histoory.

Rhode Island hosts Fairfield and Coast Guard in a non-scoring meet Friday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. Rhody’s diving team competes at the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. Jan. 25-26.

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Catamounts swept the 200 back and closed the meet with a 200 free relay win as the Rhode Island Rams (7-0, 1-0 A10) took a 192-108 dual meet win over Vermont (4-5, 3-1 AE) Saturday afternoon at Tootell Aquatic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The 200 medley relay team of Kira ParkerCailin CampbellJenny O’Neil, and Sierra Sexton opened the meet in second with a time of 1:50.96. Parker also posted a time of 1:00.14 to finish third in the 100 back.
  • Sexton won the 50 free with a time of 24.94. Vivian Nguyen placed third with a time of 25.18. In the 100 free, Nguyen (54.54) finished second.x`
  • Nguyen won the 100 fly with a time of 59.48. Freshman Jenny O’Neil placed third with a time of 59.97.
  • Katie Rivers placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.11. She also finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.37.
  • Beth Hartog (2:08.14), Morgan Montgomery (2:08.35), and Peyton McNulty (2:09.28) swept the 200 back.
  • Francesca Pucillo took third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:28.33
  • The 200 free relay team of Sexton, Nguyen, Parker, and Isabelle Magbie closed the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay, posting a time of 1:40.10.

UP NEXT
Vermont competes in the four-day America East Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 13 at WPI. The meet continues through Sunday, Feb. 16.
