On February 5th 2008 double Olympic gold medallist and 2012 double Olympic bronze medallist Rebecca Adlington announced her retirement and on March 24th Adlington announced her engagement to fellow swimmer Harry Needs to her over 300,000 followers on Twitter.
“Had the best weekend ever!!! Thank you @Harryneeds for making me the happiest person ever right now #engaged #isaidyes“
Needs also posted, “Popped the big question to the wifey @BeckAdlington & were now #engaged #shesaidyes happiest man on earth”
Adlington and Needs have been dating since the summer of 2011.
Before ending her day Adlington posted a thank you to all her well wishers, “Thank you for everyone’s kind messages! So nice of you all. Time for bed after an emotional weekend 🙂 night night x”
Needs did the same, “Just wanted to say a ginormous thank you to everyone and anyone who messaged us today. It really means alot! <3 #greatestfriends“
