Rachel Boodt Will Upgrade North Dakota’s Backstroke

Rachel Boodt, who trains with Team Rebel Aquatics in Las Vegas, has committed to the University of North Dakota. Boodt will be a huge boost to third year head coach Christopher Maiello, as her personal bests in backstroke are faster than any North Dakota swimmer achieved last year:

  • 100 backstroke- 56.75
  • 200 backstroke- 1:59.80
  • 200 free- 1:54.63
  • 500 free- 5:10.14
  • 200 IM- 2:05.34

Those times come with one caveat- the majority of them came in 2013, which means that Boodt has either been flat or adding time since then. However, she is coming off a very strong summer where she made a Winter Juniors standard in the 100 backstroke (1:05.1) and qualified for the US Open in the 200 backstroke (2:17.94).

“It is definitely an ‘up and coming’ program that is going places. I’m really excited to take my swimming to a new level over the next four years.”

Beyond her status on North Dakota’s team, Boodt’s best times would have placed her in the A-Final in both the 100 and 200 backstroke at last year’s WAC Championship. Her 200 IM would have just been outside the top eight, so she will arrive in Grand Forks with three scoring events right away.

Boodt comes from a Swimming and Diving family. Her father was a swimmer at Oakland University, while her mother dove at Valparaiso. She also has a sister, Anne, who swims for Boise State.
