Polyvalent Allison Kopas Makes Verbal Pledge to Cornhuskers

Swim Fort Lauderdale’s multi-event talent, Allison Kopas, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Nebraska in 2017-18.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to be part of the Nebraska swimming family. Nebraska has everything I am looking for in a school and has great opportunities academically and athletically. I am looking forward to the next phase of my life swimming for Coach Pablo and Coach Patrick as a Cornhusker!”

Kopas swims for head coach Dave Gibson at Swim Fort Lauderdale and attends the University School at NSU. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Kopas is a Junior Nationals-level qualifier in back and IM. Swimming at the 2015 FHSAA Class 1A Championships last November, Kopas placed seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.88) and fourth in the 100 back (57.47). She also swam the leadoff leg of University’s 400 free relay, which placed 13th, in 53.60.

Kopas had two outstanding meets at the Florida Gulf Coast Senior Championships in March (short course) and July (long course), reaching A finals in back, breast and fly and improving her personal-bests in the SCY 100 free, 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 400 IM, and the LCM 100 free, 50 back, 100 breast and 100 fly.

Some of her times are:

  • 100 back – 56.16
  • 200 back – 2:01.29
  • 200 fly – 2:03.44
  • 200 IM – 2:03.73
  • 400 IM – 4:18.82

Kopas will head to Lincoln with a growing list of verbal commits to the University of Nebraska’s class of 2021:
