Penn Loads Up With Back/Fly Specialists Vicky Wong and Lucy Pearce

Lucy Pearce of Greensboro, North Carolina (pictured above) and Vicky Wong of Los Altos, California (pictured below) have each made a verbal commitment to the application process at the University of Pennsylvania.*

Wong is a senior at Mountain View High School. She placed third in the 200 free (1:51.26) and fourth in the 100 back (56.40) at the 2016 CIF-Central Coast Section Swimming and Diving Championships. She also led off Mountain View’s third-place 200 medley relay (26.69) and 400 free relay (51.94). Wong swims year-round at Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics. She competed in the 200/400m free, 100/200m back, 100m fly, and 200m IM this summer at the USA Swimming Futures Championships at Stanford.

Her top SCY times are:

  • 50 back – 25.70
  • 100 back – 55.63
  • 200 back – 2:00.22
  • 100 free – 51.93
  • 200 free – 1:50.95
  • 100 fly – 55.73
  • 200 fly – 2:04.06

Lucy Pearce

“I chose the University of Pennsylvania because its stellar academics and amazing swim program will allow me to reach my goals both in the pool and the classroom. I immediately fell in love with the coaches, and the team made me feel right at home! I am so excited to be a part of the class of 2021 and experience all that Philadelphia has to offer. GO QUAKERS!!”

A senior at Page High School in Greensboro, Pearce will be the first member of her family to venture outside of the state of North Carolina for college. At the 2016 NCHSAA 4A State Championships, Pearce placed fourth in the 100 back (55.13) and tenth in the 100 fly (56.98). She also led of both the 200 medley and 400 free relays for Pace.

Pearce has made tremendous strides over the past few years. She began swimming for Swim GSA when she was 5 and, after a spell elsewhere, will finish her club career there. “I swim under Kevin Thornton who is greatly responsible for my improvement. He has definitely pushed my physical limits, and motivated me throughout the past few years.”

  • 50 back – 25.97 (-2.3 since 2014)
  • 100 back – 55.10 (-4.2 since 2014)
  • 200 back – 2:00.38 (-5.3 since 2014)
  • 50 fly – 26.32
  • 100 fly – 56.98 (-4.5 since 2014)
  • 50 free – 24.82 (-1.4 since 2014)
  • 100 free – 53.76 (-1.4 since 2014)
  • 200 free – 1:56.87 (-4.5 since 2014)
