Ohio State Welcomes In Akron, Denison In Home Meet

For the second time in as many weeks, the Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host a meet at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. A couple of Ohio opponents will be coming to town; the women will be taking on Akron and Denison, and the No. 17 men will solely face off against Denison.

Live results will be available at OhioStateBuckeyes.com. Admission is free to the meet and fans can park in the Neil Avenue Garage right next to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion for $5 beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Fans who are unable to attend are encouraged to follow the action live on Twitter @OhioSt_SwimDive.

The meet will utilize a 16-event format with exhibition swims during breaks:

200 Medley Relay

1000 Freestyle

200 Freestyle

100 Backstroke

100 Breaststroke

200 Butterfly

Last Time Out

The men and women combined to win all 28 races and four diving events to open up the 2017-18 season. Meg Bailey was victorious thrice against Kenyon with wins in the 200 butterfly (1:59.95), 200 backstroke (2:01.40) and 200 individual medley (2:02.29). Freya Rayner won her first two career races as a Buckeye in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles with times of 22.87 and 50.56, respectively.

On the men’s side, Ching Hwang Lim and Nick Hogsed both pulled double duty on the podium with golds. Hogsed won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:20.86 to edge fellow distance swimmer Brayden Seal. Hogsed doubled up on the long-distance races and scored a win in the 500 freestyle with a readout of 4:29.51.

Lim won his two races in the 200 freestyle (1:40.03) and 200 individual medley (1:51.05). Christo Law swept titles on the one-meter and three-meter diving board with scores of 404.63 (No. 9) and 419.55 (No. 3), both of which are ranked inside the Top 10 nationally.

DeLakis Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

On Wednesday (Nov. 1), Paul DeLakis earned his first of many Big Ten honors. The Eau Claire, Wisc., native was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance last week against Kenyon. The freshman captured his first collegiate win in the 200 breaststroke with a clocking of 2:02.53. He also picked up silver finishes in the 200 individual medley (1:51.74) and 200 freestyle (1:40.05).

Liz Li to Return in January

Five-time Big Ten champion Liz Li is slated to return to competition for the Scarlet and Gray in January. A native of China, Li is spending time back home fulfilling training obligations with her national team. Having already graduated from Ohio State, the freestyle specialist will begin graduate school in January.
