ROCHESTER, Mich – The Oakland Women’s Swim Team finished their meet against Toledo with a final winning score of 180-120. 

The Golden Grizzlies started off with a strong win as they finished the 200 yard medley relay in first with a time of 1:44.85 with swimmers Susan LaGrandTaylor BaileySophia Davis, and Jordyn Shipps

LaGrand secured the top place both in the 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke with times of 56.04 and 2:08.32. Similarly, Bailey came in to finish ahead of her competition in both the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:05.09 and 2:19.09. And again, Shipps got a piece of the action with a winning time in both 100 yard and 200 yard butterfly with times of 56.64 and 2:06.21. 

Oakland ended the night with a 400 yard freestyle relay that would put them on top with a final time of 3:30.37 consisting of swimmers Sam ThiessenMia EnglenderMia Keranen, and Ronja Riihinen

Notably, the diving team out-competed the Rockets with wins from Ellie Chalifoux across the board in both the one meter and three meter events. She received a score of 264 with nine points in the one meter event to get the win, and then 247.80 with nine points again in the three meter event to place first. 

The Golden Grizzlies will be competing next in the Atlantic Challenge on October 29-30.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women’s swimming and diving team won six events against Oakland, but ultimately were defeated 180-120 on Friday night at the UT Student Recreation Center Pool.

Seniors Jovana DuricKennedy Lovell, and Lauren Kilgore along with freshman Janne Slegers each recorded wins in the Rockets’ first meet of the season.

The Toledo freestylers collected all six victories. Duric opened the meet by winning the 1000 freestyle and added another first-place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Lovell had one individual win in the 50 freestyle, as well as a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke.

Slegers captured two first-place finishes in the 200 and 100 freestyle, and a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle for her collegiate debut.

Kilgore registered the final victory for Toledo in the 200IM with a time of 2:07.40, almost two seconds in front of the runner-up from Oakland.

Also making their collegiate debuts were freshmen Pula Pavillard-Salvador, Alexis SchrecongostKaleigh StiversAna Albear, and Annie Bartlett on the diving board.

Toledo will be back in the pool for its first Mid-American Conference meet vs. Eastern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m.
