Nyls Korstanje Swims #3 100 butterfly Time in NCAA this Season at NC State-UNCW

While the NC State women hosted the Texas women, the NC State men hosted the UNCW men. Former NC State Associate Head Coach, Bobby Guntoro, is now the head coach at UNCW. 

The NC State men won the meet with a score of 184-86. The Wolfpack began to exhibition their swimmers during the 200 breaststroke. 

Leading the way for the Wolfpack was Nyls Korstanje as he won the 50 freestyle in a time of 19.52. He also swam the fastest time in the 100 butterfly as he finished in a 44.76, but he was exhibition. That is a huge swim for Korstanje as it was faster than he went at midseason by over half a second. It also now places him at #3 in the NCAA this season. It also was a pool record.

Giovanni Izzo also led the way as he won the 100 backstroke in a time of 47.65 and swam the fastest time in the 200 IM (1:45.81) although it was exhibition. He was not far off of his 100 backstroke time from midseason (46.32) which places him at #24 in the NCAA this season in the event. His 200 IM was a season best. 

Hunter Tapp won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:35.55 and finished second in the 100 freestyle in a time of 43.78. Tapp holds the #24 time in the NCAA this season in the 200 freestyle as he went a 1:33.81 at midseason. 

Jack Moranetz finished first in the 100 breaststroke finishing in a time of 54.65. He also finished second in the 200 breaststroke touching the wall in a time of 2:01.68. Teammate Rafal Kusto won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 1:56.94. That time is not far off of his season best of 1:55.05 that places him at #32 in the NCAA this season.

UNCW was led by Henderson Louviere as he swam a time of 1:52.86 in the 200 IM. He earned first place in the event although NC State had four swimmers exhibitioned ahead of him. He also finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:40.91, NC State had not exhibitioned that event. 

David Fitch, who originally was committed to Florida but has now transferred to UNCW, made his debut for the Seahawks. Fitch finished fourth in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:52.20 (NC State had not exhibitioned yet). He won the 100 butterfly in a time of 50.73 although four exhibitioned NC State swimmers went faster than him.

  • 200 medley relay: NC State (1:25.62, David Curtiss split a 18.82 on freestyle)
  • 1000 freestyle: Will Gallant, NC State (9:02.86)
  • 200 butterfly: Luke Miller, NC State (1:47.08)
  • 100 freestyle: Noah Henderson, NC State (43.71)
  • 200 backstroke: Kacper Stokowski, NC State (1:42.88, his season best of 1:40.71 is #5 in the NCAA this season)
  • 500 freestyle: Eric Knowles, NC State (4:25.67 exhibitioned time)
  • 400 freestyle relay: NC State (2:54.49 exhibitioned time)

Bustos went 1:56.8 in the 2 breast after not even swimming it at mid-season invite (1 free instead) that’s nuts.
