Northeastern Closes Out 2025 With Thrilling Win Over UNH

BOSTON – The Northeastern women’s swimming and diving team (4-1) captured a thrilling 156-144 victory over the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, Dec. 6, at home in a closely contested dual meet, highlighted by freshman Abigail Gowern championing both the 1000 Free and the 500 Free.

  • Senior Anelise Kim placed second in the 3-Meter Diving with a score of 259.50 points, leading the Huskies’ diving contingent. Sophomore Maddie Wong took third place scoring 233.10.
  • Freshman Abigail Gowern touched first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:34.90, edging out UNH’s Marisa White (10:40.90). Junior Bella Busconi took third place, completing the race at 10:42.61.
  • In the fifth event, freshman Sophie Bromley won the 100 Back in 58.12, with senior Teagan Osga taking second in 58.20. Fellow Husky sophomore Delaney Alonso rounded out the podium at third place (59.07).
  • Anelise Kim took second place in the 1-Meter Diving with a final score of 263.63. Maddie Wong followed in third with a 222.38.
  • The eleventh event was championed by senior Anna Verlander. Verlander claimed first place in the 200 Back with a time of 2:04.02.
  • Freshman Abigail Gowern captured her second individual win of the day in the 500 Free, finishing in 5:09.41.
  • Freshman Alex Campion touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.51.
  • The Northeastern team of Alex FullerKotoko BlairMary Nordmann and May Bradburn clinched the overall Northeastern win by taking first place in the 200 Free Relay at 1:34.59.

The Huskies will be heading to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, from Dec. 15 to Dec. 22 for their training trip. They kick off the new year with the Tate Ramsden Invitational, hosted by Dartmouth, from Jan. 16 to Jan. 17 in Hanover, N.H.

BOSTON – Junior captain Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), senior captain Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.), junior Emily Loren Wright (Ventura, Calif.) and junior Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) each posted multiple event victories Saturday, but the UNH women’s swimming and diving team sustained its first loss of the season, 156-144, against Northeastern at the Barletta Natatorium.

Mahon raced to wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2 minutes, 5.01 seconds) and 100-yard butterfly (55.59 seconds) while Mahoney touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.63) and 100-yard freestyle (52.08). Wright dominated the breaststroke, winning the 100 breast (1:05.56) and 200 breast (2:22.44), and Blume swept the diving events by scoring 265.43 points in the 3-meter and 266.63 in the 1-meter.

The Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 America East) opened strong with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of freshman Kelsey Mayers (Waxhaw, N.C.), Wright, Mahon, and Mahoney touched first in 1:45.81.

Sophomore Lydia Hart (Cornwall, Ontario) led the distance group with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:56.37) and a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:10.95). Sophomore Marisa White (Apex, N.C.) added key points with second place in the 1000 free (10:40.90), while senior captain Carolyn Nelson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was fourth in both distance races.

Mayers tacked on second-place results in the 200 back (2:07.72) and fourth in the 100 back.

Northeastern’s highlights included freshman Abigail Gowern sweeping the distance freestyle with wins in the 1000 (10:34.90) and 500 (5:09.41), and the Huskies (4-1, 0-0 CAA) closed the meet with a decisive victory in the 200 free relay (1:34.59). Sophie Bromley also led a strong backstroke group, taking the 100 back in 58.12.
