Katinka Hosszu of Hungary is already on her way to Moscow after concluding a successful 2017 FINA World Championships.
Yesterday, Mr. Barelli answered some questions we had regarding Hosszu’s call for a pro swimmers’ union and weighed in on the consequences of the World Cup rules changes.
“Medalists will show up out of shape and waste a finals spot, or in “deep training” and do the same. It will not work out well,” Tom Shields says of the new FINA World Cup rule where Olympic and World Championship medalist earn automatic berths into World Cup finals.
FINA announced recently that it would cap the number of events each swimmer could enter at a single World Cup stop at four.
