2025 World Cup – Carmel: Day 1 Scratches – Andrew Drops 100 FL & BR for 50 Fr/100 IM Double

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

Day 1 Prelims Heat Sheet

While the new pysch sheet, accurately reflects the prelims heat sheet, in looking at the old pysch sheet, we can see that several swimmers have pared down their busy schedules. Summer McIntosh has pulled out of the entire meet citing illness, as covered previously, but so too does it appear that Chloe Stepanek, Quintin McCarty and Kennedy Noble have withdrawn.

Looking at just this morning, World Cup record holder in the 100 IM, Leon Marchand has opted not to swim that event, instead opting to take on the 400 free and 200 backstroke. Marchand was one of the few swimmers to drop the 100 IM in favor of other events as Italy’s Thomas Ceccon dropped both the 200 back and 100 fly in favor of the IM sprint, a move copied by Hungary’s Hubert Kos, as he cut the 100 fly from his schedule this morning, but remains the top seed in the 200 back.

North Americans Michael Andrew and Finlay Knox also opted to stay in the 100 IM dropping out of the 100 breaststroke where they were the 8th and 11th seeds respectively. The pair were also entered in the 100 fly, but with a sprint heavy program for the men this morning, dropping events was to be expected as Andrew is still entered in the 50 free which occurs just one event before the 100 IM.

Seeing Grant Freeze’s name on the scratches is heartbreaking. Prayers for his family.
