NC State Earns Verbal Commitment from YNats Champ Faith Hefner

Faith Hefner from Claremont, North Carolina has elected to swim for the North Carolina State University women’s swimming and diving team beginning in the fall of 2019. She becomes the Wolfpack’s second in-state verbal commit to the class of 2023 after Maddy Flickinger.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at NC State! Thank to everyone who has supported me and helped my get to this point! GO PACK!!!”

Hefner, who is homeschooled, swims for Hickory Foundation YMCA Seahorse Swim Team. She has been swimming at the national level since the age of 13, and claimed a national title in the 200 meter free (2:03.15) as a 15-year-old at the 2016 YMCA National Long Course Championships. She also finished 4th in the 1500 free and 8th in the 100 fly, and led off two winning relays, at that meet.

Hefner has had a successful junior year, scoring new times in all her best events, as well as a few off-events, since the fall: SCY 50/100/200/500/1000 free, 50/100/200 back, and 50/100/200 fly. At the recent 2018 Short Course YMCA Nationals in Greensboro, she placed 7th in the 200 free, 8th in the 100 fly, 11th in the 500 free, and 22nd in the 200 fly. In addition to a PB in the 500 free, she lowered her times in the 100 back and 100 free leading off Hickory Foundation YMCA relays.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 free – 1:49.69
  • 500 free – 4:52.77
  • 100 fly – 54.79
  • 200 fly – 2:03.88
  • 100 back – 56.27
  • 200 back – 2:02.10
