Maddy Flickinger of Matthews, North Carolina has announced her verbal commitment to North Carolina State University’s class of 2023.

A junior at Weddington High School, Flickinger is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, a NISCA All-American and a six-time NCHSAA 3A finalist. She won the 100 back as a sophomore and was runner-up as both a freshman and a junior. After finishing fifth in the 200 IM as a freshman, she was runner-up in each of the last two years.
Flickinger swims year-round at SwimMAC Carolina, where she specializes mainly in backstroke, IM, and freestyle. She finished fourth in the 200 back at 2017 Winter Juniors East (). She also placed 11th in the 100 back, 18th in the 50 free, and 22nd in the 200 IM. She also competed in the 100 free and 100 breast, split 22.86 on MAC’s second-place 200 free relay, led off the third-place 400 free relay (49.81) and the 8th-place 200 medley relay (25.42), and anchored the-6th place 100 medley relay (49.70). Flickinger left the meet with new PBs in the 50/100 free, 50/200 back, and 200 IM. This spring she has already achieved best times in the 50/100m free, 100y fly, and 200y free.
