Charlotte, North Carolina’s Alex Bonfilio committed to The United States Naval Academy class of 2020.

“I chose The Naval Academy because I wanted to be a part of something greater then myself. I loved the team and the coaches. They made me feel like I was at home. I am so honored to be able to have this opportunity to attend such a prestigious academy and serve my country afterwards. I can’t wait to see where this road takes me in life and all the hard and great times I am going to get to experience.

Bonfilio swims for SwimMAC Carolina where she specializes in IM, breast and back. Representing Marvin Ridge High School at the 2015 NCHSAA 3A State Championships, Bonfilio placed third in the 200 IM (2:08.60) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:07.54), and swam on the 200 medley and 400 free relays, helping the Mavericks win the team title.

Her top times are:

400 IM 4:24.78 5:03.73
200 IM 2:07.36 2:24.07

100 breast 1:05.93
200 back 2:06.67 2:24.95
100 back 59.43 1:08.56

The Patriot League only scores two heats at its championships, but Bonfilio already has A-final scoring potential in the 400 IM and B-final potential in the 200 IM, 200 breast, and 100 breast.

Bonfilio will join Delaney Walz of New Jersey who has also committed to the Midshipmen.
