Murphy Among D1 Swimmers Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

Today CoSIDA announced their Academic All-American Division 1 At-Large teams, and among the swimmers on the list is backstroke phenom Ryan Murphy. Murphy is joined by 20 other swimmers who made First, Second, or Third Team Academic All-American.

Swimming has by far the largest population on the short list with 21 names, followed by gymnastics with 12 athletes on the list, and tennis with a strong showing of 11.

The list is highlighted by two athletes who won the award for CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. On the women’s side, the award went to Lauren Beers, a gymnast from Alabama. Anton McKee, a swimmer also from Alabama, won the award for the men.

The women’s First Team list includes includes six swimmers, three of them maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Among these swimmers are Ellen Bradford, a swimmer for Navy who is studying engineering. Bradford was on the First Team list last year as well, and made Third Team in 2014. Danielle Galver of Kentucky and Sarah Gibson of Texas A&M also earned 4.0 GPAs in psychology/political science and biomedical engineering, respectively.

Anton Mckee earned a 4.0 GPA as a major in finance, and is joined by swimmer senior Nathan Lile from Gardner Webb who also earned a perfect GPA. The swimmers take up a large portion of the First Team list with 7, many of them multiple-time winners. Evan BaderCorey Bowersox, Ryan Murphy, Ty Stewart, and Connor Oslin are all returners to the Academic All-American List.
