Emmitsburg, MD- The Wagner women’s swimming & diving program defeated Mount St. Mary’s 166-111 while the men’s team lost to the Mountaineers on Saturday.

Taylor Marjamaa touched the wall first at 9:33.71 in the 800 Meter Freestyle. The senior also finished second in the 400 Meter Freestyle at 4:40.21, just .06 out of first place.

Olivia Bishop picked up her first individual win as a Seahawk, hitting the wall with a time of 2:09.10 in the 200 Meter Freestyle. The senior’s second win of the day came in the 100 Meter Freestyle, when she had a time of 58.71.

Aura Vilarrasa earned her second individual win of the season, taking first in the 100 Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:05.37. The freshman also placed second in the 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:00.26.

Shamiya Guirre and Bree Anderson also finished first individually in the 200 Meter Backstroke and in the 200 Meter Individual Medley, respectively. Meliti Efthimiou took first place in the 1 Meter Diving event, scoring a 236.10.

On the men’s side, two Seahawks won multiple events on Saturday. Ruben Van Gool earned his first victory as a Seahawk in the 800 Meter Freestyle with a time of 8:46.95. The freshman took his second win of the day in the 400 Meter freestyle with a time of 4:09.92.

Kaan Nalcaci won his third event of the season in the 200 Meter Butterfly with a time of 2:12.90. The freshman then won again in the 100 Meter Butterfly, touching the wall at 58.01. Russell Gavino won the 200 Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:12.82.

Carter Green won the 1 Meter Diving event with a score of 199.05. Nathan Seaney also competed in the event and finished third, posting a 125.90.

The Seahawks return the Spiro Sports Center for the first home meet of the season with St. Francis Brooklyn and Felician on Saturday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m.

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 29, 2022) – Mount St. Mary’s men’s swimming and diving team notched their first victory at home against Wagner 166-112. The women’s swimmers and divers fell to Wagner 166-111.

The Mountaineers’ men’s team placed first in 10 of 15 events, one loss mounted from the diving competition where only one Mountaineer competed.

Junior Jason Fitch toppled his previous school record in the 100-Meter Backstroke (58.94) set back on October 23, 2021 with a new time of 57.98. Sophomore Aidan Grady also set a new school record in the 200-Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:24.36, previously held by John Wilson (2:26.30) who accomplished that feat on November 3, 2018.

The Mountaineers’ women’s team had glimpses of glory as well, including junior Dahna Yoon winning two individual events. Yoon placed first in the 100-Meter Butterfly (1:06.97), as well as the 200-Meter Butterfly (2:25.72) earning her team 18 points. Sophomore Meghan Speicher gained a burst of energy in the last two laps of the women’s 400-Meter Freestyle that boosted her into first place, winning the event with a time of 4:40.15.

The women’s swimmers and divers came very close to breaking the school record in the 200-Meter Medley Relay (2:01.33) set on October 24, 2015, as they logged a time of 2:03.18 only missing the mark by a slim 1.85 seconds.

The Mount swim and dive teams travel to Lexington, Virginia to compete against Virginia Military Institute in a dual meet on November 5 at 1 p.m.
