Missouri Valley Swimmers of Week for Nov. 4 both come out of Illinois

The following is a press release courtesy of the Missouri Valley Conference:

Courtney Taylor of Illinois State and Sherry Zhang of Southern Illinois have been named MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

MVC Swimmer of the Week

Courtney Taylor – Jr. – Illinois State (Naperville, Ill.)

Taylor played a key role in helping Illinois State defeat Southern Illinois in a double dual Saturday at Horton Pool. Taylor won both the 200-yard breaststroke, setting a new season-best time of 2:22.18, and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.69).  Her times in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM (2:08.78), both set Saturday, currently lead the Missouri Valley Conference. Her performance in the 200-yard IM topped all swimmers from Southern Illinois. Taylor is also a member of the 200-medley relay team that currently holds the best time in the MVC (1:46.82).

MVC Diver of the Week

Sherry Zhang – Jr. – Southern Illinois (Hu Bei, China)

Zhang was once again on top of her game this weekend after a few weeks off. In the one-meter dive, Zhang carded a score of 353.20 to defeat a tough field of competitors. The three-meter competition saw Zhang produce the same kind of performance she has done all year, this time earning a score of 403.45 to earn her sixth win of the season. Her score in the three-meter dive was nearly 40 points higher than the second place finisher.
