Missouri State’s Osvath Earns First MAC Swimmer of the Week Award

CLEVELAND – Missouri State freshman Artur Osvath was named the Mid-American Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week Monday, Oct. 12, for his efforts in duals against Evansville and Southern Illinois at Hammons Student Center.

Osvath had two of the most impressive performances for the Bears in their dual victories over conference foes Evansville and Southern Illinois on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Budapest, Hungary, native earned two first-place finishes and a runner-up showing in Missouri State’s matchup with the Purple Aces. The Bears opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay, while Osvath won his first individual collegiate race in the 200 freestyle (1:43.12). The freshman placed second in the 100 breaststroke (56.55) and finished behind only Bears senior Uvis Kalnins, who set a pool record in the event.

Osvath continued his success Saturday by winning the 200 individual medley and 200 breaststroke. He placed first in the 200 IM in a time of 1:53.24 and followed that with a 2:03.44 finish in the 200 breast, which is currently the fastest time among MAC swimmers.

He also was a member of the Bears’ second victory in the 400 medley relay in back-to-back days with an improved time of 3:22.92.

The Bears have now earned two-consecutive Swimmer of the Week selections with senior Uvis Kalnins claiming the first honor after MSU’s opening meet of the season.

Missouri State returns to Hammons Student Center to host Drury in the annual ‘Duel in the Pool’ series at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The Bears will also host their alumni/intrasquad meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
