Minnesota Set to Host Florida on Saturday

The University of Minnesota will welcome the Florida Gators this Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. as the Gophers host their lone home dual of the season. The meet is scheduled to include the annual Pack the Pool event as well as recognizing the program’s eight graduating seniors.

Last season, Minnesota and Florida each tallied one win and one loss with the Golden Gopher women’s squad outscoring Florida 183-117, while the Minnesota men fell 172-124.

The Gopher men hold a 1-5 overall record against the University of Florida with Minnesota outscoring the Gators in 2006 when they won 161-139 in Florida. On the women’s side, last year’s Gopher “W” has been the only dual matchup for the two schools.

Minnesota opened the 2015-16 season last weekend against the Florida State Seminoles. The women earned a dominant win of 212-88 in Tallahassee to begin their season with a 1-0 record. The Gopher men sit at 0-1 after a close loss vs. Florida State. Junior divers Yu Zhou and Matt Barnard were named the Big Ten Conference’s Divers of the Week after their standout performances.

The Gators will arrive in Minnesota having topped the competition at the All Florida Invite earlier this September. Their women’s program will have also just competed in a dual scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8 against Vanderbilt.

In addition to the standard free admission to Minnesota meets, Saturday’s meet will feature free t-shirts for the first 200 fans, giveaways and an appearance from Goldy The Gopher.
