MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving program collected their fifth straight victory of the season, winning 125-72 over Wheaton College. The victory also marks the Panthers’ thirteenth straight victory over Wheaton and keeps them undefeated against the Thunder.

With the absence of the two dives, only 11 events took place on the day. Milwaukee dominated the Thunder, winning ten of the eleven, including both relays. Milwaukee even took the top four spots in the 200 yard medley relay, led by the squad of Skylar RugglesBella SponsellerBrielle Laube, and Grace Brehm.

“As we round out our fall semester of dual meets, we end on a good note” head coach Kyle Clements remarked. “We really progressed and grew from the beginning of the year to now, and now we’ll turn our focus to our mid-season championship. The next time we race we will be a lot fresher and faster.”

Grace Hudson collected two individual victories on the day, winning both the 200 and 500 yard freestyles. Her time of 5:19.26 in the 500 was more than 25 seconds ahead of the runner up from Wheaton.

Antoni Haupt swam away with the crown in the 1000 yard freestyle, winning by nearly ten seconds with a time of 10:51.47. Janelle Schulz also recorded a significant margin of victory, winning the 50 yard freestyle by a full second.

Noelle Bryan continued the trend for the Panthers, touching the wall 2.54 seconds ahead of her competitors in the 100 yard freestyle, and Nhia Caras took the 100 yard butterfly crown with a time of 1:00.21.

Winning the 100 yard backstroke by nearly five seconds was Mara Freeman, followed up by Ava Schlageter grabbing a win in the 100 yard breaststroke. Milwaukee’s 200 yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Bryan, Schulz, Grace Mayes, and Kylee Radigan, finished the afternoon with a first-place time of 1:39.71.

Up next for the Panthers is the IUPUI House of Champions Invitational, which will take place November 16-18 in Indianapolis.

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men’s swimming & diving program defeated the visiting Wheaton College Thunder today by a score of 132-68. The win puts the Panthers back above the .500 mark and extends their winning streak over the Thunder to nine meets.

The Panthers had their most decisive win of the season in today’s meet, taking the top spot in all eleven events.

In a sight rarely seen at a swim meet, the 100 yard breaststroke ended in a tie, with two Panthers recording the exact same time. Hunter Johnson and Travis Hull both touched the wall with a time of 1:01.01, with Johnson making up .64 seconds on Hull in the final 100 yards.

Vince Chiappetta excelled in the distance freestyles, taking first place in both the 500 and 1000 yard races by an average of over six seconds. Konnor Pilger took the crown in the 200 yard freestyle, recording a time of 1:47.17.

The 100 yard freestyle crown went to Ben Lorenz, who touched the wall in 47.43 seconds, while Griffin Hawley took the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle.

In his lone individual event of the day, Jay Jensen won the 400 yard individual medley, leading a Panther sweep of the top three while being followed by Jackson Hodek and Yassin Dwidar.

Hayden Christiansen grabbed a win in the 100 yard butterfly with a 52.09 mark, and Kevin Soltys took the top spot in the 100 yard backstroke.

Both Milwaukee relay teams came out on top – Jensen, Ahrens, Hawley, and Griffin in the 200 yard freestyle relay, and Hodek, Ethan FordAndrew Jones, and Charlie House in the 200 yard medley.

Up next for the Panthers is the IUPUI House of Champions Invitational, which will take place November 16-18 in Indianapolis.

Milwaukee, Wis. – Two weeks after beginning their season at a quad meet hosted by the University of Chicago, the Wheaton swimming teams returned to competition on Saturday afternoon. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee welcomed Wheaton to renew their non-conference series, and the hosting Panthers defeated the Thunder in both the men’s and women’s competitions. UW-Milwaukee topped the Wheaton women’s team by a score of 125-72, while the Panthers’ men’s squad downed the Wheaton men, 132-68.

Tess Boyer earned the only event victory of the meet for Wheaton today to continue the impressive start to her collegiate career. She bested seven competitors in the women’s 400 yard IM with a time of 4:33.80 to add nine points to Wheaton’s total score. Her time mark in the 400 IM is currently fourth in all of Division III.

The Thunder women’s squad posted a number of runner-up placements on Saturday. Sophie Pelling came in second in the 50 yard freestyle, edging out a Panther challenger by .01 second. Fellow senior Carolyn Bubar earned a second-place finish in her 100 yard butterfly race, and Katie Yonan followed this up by touching the wall second in the 100 yard freestyle.

Olivia Wiebe was the runner-up in the women’s 100 yard backstroke event, and Madison Harris earned a second-place finish of her own in the 500 yard freestyle. The Wheaton women then ended Saturday’s meet with a second-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay, as a quartet of Pelling, Rebecca Darter, Bubar, and Yonan pipped a Milwaukee grouping to the wall by .16 seconds to earn an additional four points.

Both Wheaton squads will return to the pool next Saturday when the Thunder welcome the Calvin Knights to Lederhouse Natatorium for Wheaton’s home opener. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 1 PM.

Michael O’Connor was a standout performer for the Wheaton men’s team today, as the senior placed second in his 200 yard freestyle event, gaining four points and missing out on the top spot by only two-thirds of a second. Anthony Fitzgerald was just behind his fellow senior in third place and added a runner-up placement of his own in the 100 yard backstroke later in the day.

AJ Staiti continued the upperclassmen’s point-gathering by finishing third in his 50 yard freestyle race, edging out teammate Elijah Chen by just .02 seconds. Staiti then came in second place in the following 100 yard butterfly to contribute four more points to Wheaton’s tally.

O’Connor was back at it again in the 100-yard edition of the freestyle, pipping Ben Coley to second place with a time of 49.16. Isaac Eilmes posted a second-place performance of his own in the men’s 500 yard freestyle as the top Wheaton finisher in the field.

The Thunder men wrapped up their showing on Saturday by earning second in the 200 yard freestyle relay thanks to a combination of Fitzgerald, Staiti, Coley, and O’Connor.
