Incoming Michigan freshman Alexey Glivinskiys NCAA debut will be delayed by a few months as he shores up a few things at home before heading to Ann Arbor. The Israeli national champion is completing some of his army commitments this fall, and is now set to join the Wolverines in January for the spring semester.

Glivinskiy is coming off a huge spring and summer of LCM racing, wherein he posted new career bests in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM. He was the gold medalist in the 100 free and 200 IM at Israel’s World Championship Trials back in May, establishing new career bests of 48.43 and 1:58.91 respectively. Glivinskiy came in 2nd in the 200 free with a 1:47.10 at that meet as well.

He went on to the World Championships in Singapore, where he managed to qualify for semifinals in the 200 IM. After swimming a 1:59.00 in prelims, Glivinskiy went 1:59.41 in semifinals, which was good for 14th place overall. He also provided a speedy 1:46.46 split on Israel’s 4×200 free relay. Glivinskiy also came in 23rd in prelims of the 200 free, swimming a 1:47.54.

While Glivinskiy will be missing the fall semester of his freshman year, he’s set to join Michigan in time to fulfill the requirements in order to be eligible to compete at the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Championships, if he were to qualify for that meet. Given his times, it seems very likely that Glivinskiy will be a big contributor for the Wolverines both individually and on relays.

It seems most likely Glivinskiy’s individual events will be the 200 IM, 200 free, and 100 free at the collegiate level, however, it’s worth noting that he’s quite talented in the LCM 100 breast and 100 fly as well. Given his 100 free time, the 50 free may be a possibility as well, although a 1:58 LCM 200 IM makes it hard to see a scenario in which he doesn’t compete in the 200 IM for Michigan.

Other members of Michigan’s incoming freshmen class include Austria’s Luka Mladenovic, Hungary’s Boldizsar Magda, Canada’s Antoine Sauve, Bolles School Sharks’ Antoine Destang, Lakeside Swim Team’s Alex Thiesing, and Long Island Aquatic Club’s Will Siegel.

Glivinskiy is the latest high profile swimmer Michigan has recruited from Israel. Gal Groumi, the Israeli Record holder in the LCM and SCM 100 fly, graduated from Michigan this spring after a highly successful career, wherein he was a 5-time ‘A’ finalist and 5-time ‘B’ finalist at NCAAs, a 2-time Big Ten champion, and the Big Ten Swimmer of the Meet in 2024. Israel’s Eitan Ben Shitrit is a rising senior and Michigan and was the 2023 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
