Miami Swimming and Diving Will Host 21st Annual Miami Invitational

Miami University’s men’s swimming and diving is back in the water to host the 21st Annual Miami Invitational which includes Denison, Cincinnati, Emory, Wright State and Urbana at the Nixon Aquatic Center beginning Thursday, Dec. 4 through Saturday Dec. 6. The meet starts at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The RedHawks are coming off a win against Cleveland State, 120.5-108.5, on Nov. 1. The men are currently 2-1 for the season. Senior Joe Baumgartner, sophomore Bryan McNamara and freshmen Ross Westrick have all had some strong showings so far.

Baumgartner has brought home a first-place finish in every meet this season. When the RedHawks took on Purdue, captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.59. In the most recent dual meet, Baumgartner earned first for the RedHawks in the 50-yard freestyle.

McNamara and Westrick have also made some noteworthy contributions to the overall performance of the RedHawks this season. McNamara brought home two individual first-place finishes for the team in the meet against CSU in the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle. Westrick made a splash in the first meet of the season against Xavier with two first-place finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle.

Meet the Competition

Denison: The Denison Big Red are 4-1 for this season with two tough meets against Michigan State and Ohio State. In their most recent meet, they fell to Kenyon 170-130. Denison is currently ranked second in Division III, according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Cincinnati: The Bearcats are coming off a loss against Eastern Michigan in their most-recent event on Nov. 15. Cincinnati is 1-3 for this season so far.

Wright State: The Wright State Raiders are 4-0 for this season. They won their most recent dual meet against Green Bay (180-120) on Nov. 1. WSU also competed in a tri-meet with IUPUI and Marshall on Nov. 8. Clement Quilliec was named Horizon League Male Swimmer of the Week twice this season.

Emory: Emory is 2-1 at this point in the season. On Nov. 8 they competed against Savannah College of Art and Design for a win over the Bees, 153-106. Emory is ranked third in the Division III team rankings just below Denison (CSCAA).

Urbana: Urbana currently boasts a 4-0 record. The Blue Knights’ most-recent competition was against Ohio Wesleyan where they edged out the competition with a final score of 101-100. The Blue Knights were back at OWU for the Corbiere/Marion Invitational on Nov. 22 where they finished fourth among the six-team field.

Dates and Times: Dec. 4 (1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), Dec. 5 (11 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.), Dec. 6 (10 a.m. and 6 p.m.)
