In their first home meet of 2023, the Miami University women’s swimming and diving team emerged victorious against the visiting Toledo on Saturday, Jan. 28. The RedHawks earned several key event wins and placements to finish the meet ahead 169-74.

How It Happened:

  • The meet kicked off with the 400 medley relay. Miami’s A relay team of Madeline PadavicSara Lahrach-SanchezHonor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier came out on top, earning a combined time of 3:46.57.
  • Audrey Conley placed second for the RedHawks in the 1650 freestyle, earning a time of 17:31.47. Katheryn Antonowich followed in third (17:53.11).
  • In the 200 freestyle, Greta Kolbeck finished first with a time of 1:52.53. Julia Waechter was just behind in second (1:53.70).
  • Miami swimmers took the top three placements in the 50 freestyle, with Maier in first (23.30), Brodie-Foy in second (23.78) and Jenna Halliday in third (24.30).
  • Ashley Sego won the 200 IM for the RedHawks, earning a time of 2:07.97. Camila Lins De Mello came in third, earning a time of 2:08.92.
  • The 100 butterfly had a second-place finish from Jordyn Homoki (58.11) and a third-place finish from Padavic (59.02).
  • Maier took first in the 100 freestyle (50.92), with Caitlin Horn taking third (53.80).
  • Angelina Cakuls gave Miami a win in the 100 backstroke, earning a time of 57.82.
  • In the 500 freestyle, Maggie Patterson and Erin Szczupakiewicz placed second and third respectively. Patterson picked up a time of 5:08.33, and Szczupakiewicz picked up a time of 5:09.79.
  • Lahrach-Sanchez earned the top time in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.65), where Emma Schueler also finished third (1:07.22).
  • Swimming events concluded with the 200 freestyle relay, where the RedHawks A relay of Waechter, Kolbeck, Taylor Connors and Halliday took victory with a combined time of 1:35.49.
  • In diving events, Sydney Rice came out on top in both the 1 meter dive and 3 meter dive, earning 277.28 points in the 1 meter and 284.70 points in the 3 meter. Lauren Melia landed in second in the 3 meter with 262.05 points and third in the 1 meter with 246.30 points.

Up Next:
Both RedHawks men’s and women’s teams will return to competition at home for their senior recognition meet against Xavier on Saturday, Feb. 4. Meet start time is set for 1 p.m.

OXFORD, Ohio – The Toledo women’s swimming & diving team won three events but fell to Miami, 169-74, at the Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio in its final dual competition of the season on Saturday.

Senior Jovana Duric won the first individual event of the afternoon, touching first in the 1650 freestyle with her best time this season, 17:01.32. She also went on to capture first-place in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.83.

Senior Lauren Kilgore captured first-place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.95, nearly three seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Miami. Kilgore also finished runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.47 touch-time.

Freshman Janne Slegers surpassed her previous PR time in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 2:08.77 for a runner-up finish. Slegers also took second in the 100 freestyle.

The Rockets had a 2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke by sophomore Madeline Blakely and senior Kennedy Lovell, respectively.

On the diving boards, junior Madison Giglio finished in second-place (261.00) on the one-meter and junior Ryle Harden took third (260.48) on the three-meter.

Toledo began and ended the meet with two third-place finishes by its “A” teams in the 200 Medley Relay (3:56.78) and the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:37.95).

Toledo will be back at the Nixon Aquatic Center on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 22-25 for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
