Massachusetts’ Owen Wright, Emma Roush Earn A-10 Weekly Honors

Massachusetts’ Owen Wright and Emma Roush were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Also honored was George Washington’s Peter Nachtwey, who was named Men’s Rookie of the Week. St. Bonaventure’s Lina Kutsko was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, the first of the season, were based on performances from meets held on Sept. 29 – Oct. 8

Wright, a senior from Attleboro, Mass., had two individual and two relay wins to go along with a pair of runner-up finishes. He took first as part of the Minutemen’s 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. Wright posted the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.14. He won the 100-yard IM with a time of 52.64. As part of the Minutemen’s 400 freestyle relay team, Wright helped them to a runner-up finish.

Roush, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., set two meet records at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational at Colgate University. Roush started off the weekend with a meet record score of 289.45 in the 3-Meter Dive. She ended the invitational with a score of 299.00 in the 1-Meter Dive.

Nachtwey impressed in his GW diving debut by placing third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 246.40 and winning the B flight of the 3-meter diving event with a score of 296.95. His performance in those events scored 25 combined points for the Colonials to help them finish second at the FIU Fall Classic.

Kutsko won every event she participated in at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational at Colgate University. Kutsko broke a St. Bonaventure program record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.37. She also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.02), 100-yard freestyle (51.72), 200-yard IM (2:05.75), and 50-yard freestyle (23.84). Kutsko was also a member of three relay teams that finished first. The 200-yard freestyle relay team broke a pool record with a time of 1:35.09.
