Maryland Distance Swimmer Mike Sullivan Commits to Wisconsin

Wisconsin Badgers picked up a verbal commitment from Rockville Montgomery Swim Club distance freestyler Mike Sullivan for the 2015-16 season.

“I just felt like Wisconsin was the perfect combination of a great school, town, team and everything else. I felt like it was the place for me on my trip!”

Sullivan is a senior at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. He helped Whitman score a fifth-place finish at the 2014 Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championship with a fourth in the 200 (1:40.06) and a fourth in the 500 (4:28.23) – an All-American auto cut. Sullivan also racked up points with Whitman’s 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Sullivan’s best events aren’t part of high school swimming, though. The longer the race the faster he is, and his best events are:

1650y free: 15:27.67
1000y free: 9:16.23
500y free: 4:27.92
200y free: 1:40.06

Even in the distance-free heavy B1G Sullivan is a top-16-level miler. He’ll need to drop another 3 seconds over the next year to make a final in the 500 but his 1650 will already be helpful to a Badger squad that will have graduated its top point-scorers in distance freestyle.
