Makayla Sargent Wins 800 Free at College Park Futures Champs

Makayla Sargent of the Victor Swim Club posted a lifetime best 8:48.31 to win the women’s 800 free at the College Park Futures Championships in Maryland tonight. She took almost seven seconds off of her previous best time. The University of Florida commit won by more than five seconds over 2nd place finisher Bryanna Cameron (8:53.76) of SOLO.

Sargent also anchored Victor SC’s 800 free relay in 2:04.28, and they finished third overall with a time of 8:34.84. NCAP won the relay with a time of 8:28.41, with lead-off leg Claire Nguyen providing the big split of 2:03.96. Cape Cod Swim Club was 2nd in 8:34.53, just ahead of Victor SC.

Winning the men’s 1500 free was Ivan Puskovitch of the Episcopal Academy Aquatic Club. Puskovitch, just 15 years of age, posted a 15:49.05 to dominate the race by almost eleven seconds. He was the only finisher to break 16 minutes.

In the men’s 800 free relay, rising West Virginia University senior Nate Carr led off in 1:53.80, and Club Mountaineer Aquatics would go on to win the race with a final time of 7:42.52. Eagle Swim Team Inc. touched 2nd in 7:44.26, getting a 1:53.16 anchor leg from Jacob Lamparella.
