Lucas Henveaux of Belgium swam to a new national record during Monday’s prelims session. Henveaux swam to a 1:46.03 in the 200 freestyle, dropping 0.01 off of his own previous record of a 1:46.04 that he swam during prelims of the Paris Olympics last summer.

Henveaux was out much faster tonight and was ahead by 0.79 seconds at the 100 mark. He fell back to his record pace during the 2nd 100 of the swim.

Henveaux will have another chance during tonight’s semifinal to get under his record as he is the #7 seed for semifinals. Last summer, he swam the 3rd fastest time during prelims (1:46.04) before finishing 11th in semifinals with a 1:46.20. It took a 1:45.88 to make the final in Paris.

In addition to his 200 freestyle national record, Henveaux also holds the LCM 400 and 800 free records. He was about two seconds off his record in the 400 free yesterday as he swam a 4:46.68 for 12th in prelims. His record is a 4:44.61 that he swam at the 2024 World Championships.
