Louis Dramm Sets New Pool Record in 200 IM at UNC vs Queens Dual

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels won their dual meet against Queens in dominant fashion, led by Louis Dramm setting a new pool record in the men’s 200 IM.

Men’s Meet Recap

Senior Dramm 1:43.15 in the 200 IM, breaking the former pool record of 1:43.97 set by NC State’s Andreas Vazaios in 2017. This time was almost a second faster than he swam at UNC’s first meet of the season last year against Auburn on October 25th. There he won the 200 IM in 1:44.13.

Dramm won the 200 freestyle at the beginning of the meet, touching in 1:34.75 to come in ahead of teammate David Quaresma’s 1:36.31. This swim is also about a second faster than he started last season where he finished 2nd against Auburn in 1:35.66.

Florida transfer Josh Parent also had a strong opening meet, winning the 500 and 1000 freestyle events in 4:24.95 and 9:09.82.

Other two event winners include freshman Xavier Ruiz, who swept the breaststroke events in 53.81 and 1:58.07, and sophomore Sebastian Lunak, who won the 200 fly in 1:44.06. He also had the fastest 100 fly time at 46.86, but the Tar Heels swam exhibition for the last few events.

The UNC men also won both backstroke events, with JT Schmid taking the 100 (48.03) and David Melnychuk taking the 200 in 1:45.16, and the 50 free thanks to Martin Kartavi’s 19.58.

The Tar Heels also took the men’s 200 medley relay, with the team of Reid Miller, Xavier Ruiz, Seb Lunak and Louis Dramm.

Queens took the event win in the 100 free with senior Daniel Meszaros swimming 44.28 to take home the gold over UNC’s Sean Setzers 44.38.

They also had Emil Harlem take home the win in the 100 fly at 47.81 and Matheus Przewalla win the 200 IM in 1:49.99.

Finally, their 200 freestyle relay team of Daniel Meszaros, Nien Levy, Stamatis Paleocrassas and TJ Spokas swimming 1:19.16.

The diving events were split between UNC’s Chris Booler, who won the 1-Meter and Queens’ Juan Gonzalez who set a school record en route to his 3 meter win.

Women’s Recap

Sophomore Samantha Armand won both breaststroke events, beating her times from the first meet of the season last year. She won the 100 in 1:00.68, an improvement from the 1:01.75 she swam against Auburn last October, and 2:13.10 in the 200 breast, more than two seconds faster than the 2:15.75 she opened with last season.

Freshman Kamryn Meskill won the 50 free in 22.37, a new lifetime best time, improving from the 22.39 mark she set last December at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships. She also had the fastest 100 fly in 53.44, about four tenths off her lifetime best of 52.99 from March of last year.

Sophia Frei won both the 100 back (53.01) and 200 back (1:55.07), and Mary Macaulay won the 200 fly (1:58.32) and had the fastest time in the 200 IM (1:59.28).

Lexi Ward and Lily Reader split the distance events with Reader taking the gold in the 1000 (9:56.46) and Ward winning the 500 free (4:53.31).

The diving events were also split for the Tar Heels with Ellie Joyce winning the 1-Meter and Lanie Gutch winning the 3-Meter.

The Tar Heel women also won the 100 free with Michaela Chokureva (50.20), and they started their meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with the team of Sophia Frei, Samantha Armand, Kamryn Meskill, and Michaela Chokureva touching in 1:38.43.

Queens took home a win in the 200 free, with Maddie Foster swimming 1:48.39 to come in less than a tenth ahead of UNC’s Maren Conze at 1:48.45. Foster also won the 100 fly in 54.19.

Their other event wins came in the 200 IM with Abigail Zboran swimming 2:02.79 for the win, and the 200 freestyle relay with Foster, Maren Patterson, Zboran, and Sabrina Kupcova swimming 1:33.72.
