To start 2026, Katie Ledecky swam the 2nd fastest 1500m Freestyle of All-Time in Austin, 15:23.21. This was just a month removed from her 2025 finale, when she swam the fastest 1,650y Free ever, becoming the first woman to ever to dip under 15 minutes (14:59.62).
In Austin yesterday, Ledecky reflected on her 1,650, saying that it had been a goal of hers for over 12 years. She also said she thinks she is now done with the 1,650 freestyle as an event in her career.

She is serious class! Amazing!
It’s on to the 1500 FR (SCM) for the 2026 Short Course Swimming Championships (25 m).
What a pro.
Goated 1650y free. That record might stand forever.

Let’s do a over/under for how long it takes for another woman to go under 15 in scy. I’m saying 22 years. Over +, under – . If under, who?
Unless you can get Pallister or Summer Mac to give it a go — I think it’s gonna be more like FORTY years. No joke.
Pallister would have a shot. Im not sure McIntosh could hold that pace past 1000.
😭😭😭
There’s so many pros who improve a bunch after their NCAA career, leaving swim fans wondering how far they’d be able to push an yards event. So glad to see Ledecky keep giving the 1650 a go, and now well worth the effort breaking that barrier
