Lander Valley Wins 30th Straight Title At Wyoming 3A State Championships

The Lander Valley dynasty continued at the Wyoming High School Activities Association Boys 3A Swimming and Diving Championships.

For the 30th straight year, Lander Valley won the state title, easily finishing ahead of runner-up Buffalo by 84 points.

Lander Valley was led by senior Carter Plaisted and freshman Gavin Jorgensen, who each had two victories.

Plaisted won the 100 back in a personal best time of 54.61 to improve on a runner-up finish last year.

Jorgensen made an immediate impact in his first state high school meet, taking the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:49.37.

The individual star was Buffalo junior Everett Thomas, who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams.

Thomas was the sprint freestyle king, claiming the 50 free in 20.72 and the 100 free in 47.04, both in personal best times. Thomas was 2nd in both events last year.

In the 200 free relay, Thomas anchored in 20.05 to help Buffalo win with a time of 1:28.82. Other team members were Jay Hahn (23.16), Billy Webber (23.05) and Asher Murray (22.56).

Thomas split 46.40 on the third leg for Buffalo’s team in the 400 free relay, which won with a time of 3:17.61. Other team members were Murray (50.63), Webber (51.68) and Byram (48.90).

Buffalo also captured the 200 medley relay in 1:38.77 behind the team of Byram (25.51), Hahn (26.38), Marco Monterastelli (24.98) and Murray (21.90).

Other individual event winners were:

  • Newcastle junior Gabe Hoover won the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:02.19 after finishing 3rd last year.
  • Cody senior Bryson Laing claimed 1-meter diving with 474.45 points.
  • Murray, a senior for Buffalo, won the 100 fly in 53.22 after taking 2nd last year.
  • Lyman junior Trey Bucker captured the 500 free in a personal best time of 5:06.09 after placing 2nd last year.
  • Hahn, a junior for Buffalo, won the 100 breast in a personal best time of 58.72 after finishing 2nd last year.
