While the Lander Valley boys team won its 29th straight Wyoming Class 3A state title back in February, the Lander Valley girls team hopes it is starting a title streak of its own.
Lander Valley repeated as state champion at this year’s Wyoming High School Athletic Association girls 3A state meet, easily outdistancing runner-up Kemmerer.
The big standout for Lander Valley was senior Kaitlyn Anderson, who won her fourth consecutive title in the 100 back by swimming a time of 59.36. In prelims, Anderson broke a school record with a time of 57.71.
In addition, Anderson won the 100 fly in a personal best time of 59.36.
Also winning multiple events for Lander Valley was sophomore Vayda Havens, who first won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:55.84, which was also a school record. Havens later captured the 500 free in a personal best time of 5:22.32.
Anderson and Havens were also instrumental in helping Lander Valley sweep the three relays.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Cira Hampton, Emily Plaisted, Anderson and Chase Denton won in a time of 1:50.29.
The 200 free relay was won by Lander Relay’s foursome of Sara Kearns, Plaisted, Daegan Reinhardt and Havens in a time of 1:41.02.
In the 400 free relay, Kearns, Reinhardt, Anderson and Havens won the event in a time of 3:40.36.
The other double-event winner was Kemmerer freshman Logan Rogers, who first won the 50 free in a personal best time of 24.52. Later, Rogers won the 100 free in a personal best time of 54.16 to sweep the sprint freestyles.
The other individual winners were Plaisted in the 200 IM (2:18.81), Kemmerer senior Hanna Walker in 1-meter diving (410.85), and Buffalo freshman Milan Monterastelli in the 100 breast 1:04.83.
