Lafayette Women, Rider Men Earn Victories In Split As Pool Records Fall

EASTON, Pa. – Swimming and diving hosted Rider on Thursday night, the second of a three-meet stand on College Hill this week, for senior night. The women topped the Broncs, 179-116, while the men fell 165-134.

Freshman swimmer Justin Tucker broke the Lafayette pool records in both the 1650-yard freestyle and the 400-yard IM. Tucker claimed first place in each event, finishing in 15:58.60 in the 1650 free and 4:01.36 in the 400 IM.

The team of junior Alexander Reihl, freshmen Augustus Sefcik and Charlie Moon and senior Tommy Weber eclipsed the pool record in the men’s 200 free relay with a final time of 1:22.15.

Freshman Trevor Olson claimed two first-place finishes in the 200 and 500 free, touching at 1:40.26 and 4:34.94, respectively. Olson’s performances were both season bests. Classmates Will Bashore and Sefcik each earned second in the 1650 free (16:53.95) and 100 free (46.11). Senior Sean McManus collected second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.05. Junior Alexander Zoldan and senior Tommy Weber secured second in the 400 IM (4:07.91) and 50 free (21.36).

Diving for the men, Landon Orth snagged first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 285. Orth also earned a second-place finish in the 1-meter, scoring 269.93. Junior Trey Telleen took home the victory in the 1-meter with a score of 272.18.

Swimming for the women, freshman Francesca DiGiovanni captured first in the 1650 free with a final time of 10:34.45, a season best performance. Junior Abigail Bebel snagged the victory in the 200 free as well as the 400 IM, touching at 1:54.85 and 4:31.77. Bebel’s time in the 200 free was a season best and her time in the 400 IM was a personal best. Sophomore Meghan Robinson achieved two first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 500 free, season-best and personal-best performances, respectively (1:06.18, 5:09.91).

Sophomore Ever Ferguson garnered the victory in the 200 fly with a final time of 2:09.17, a season-best performance. Junior Natalie Johnson earned first in the 100 free, finishing in 53.10, a season best time. Freshman Kristina Fleck enjoyed a first-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.47, season best, and a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:36.91).

Junior Daisy Decker placed second in the 1650 free (10:45.05) and freshman Mya Uku took home second in the 100 back (58.46). Freshmen Rana Abess and Josie Van Schaften each claimed second in the 100 breast (1:08.12) and 100 fly (58.93).

Junior diver Mia Guster collected victories in the 1- and 3-meter dives, scoring 253.95 and 232.95, respectively.

“Today was another day of great racing. We are showing grit, tenacity, and the ability to finish,”  said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “We are in a great spot, now we just need to stay healthy as everyone returns to campus and starts classes. We can’t wait to see what the coming weeks will hold for our swimmers and divers.”

The Leopard men will host NJIT for their final dual meet of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m.

EASTON, PA – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team was defeated in its regular season finale Thursday night, falling to Lafayette, 179-116. The Broncs fall to 2-7.

The Broncs won five events in the meet.

To open the day, Chas Ruatos (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Conception), Liv Turner-Havira (Archbald, PA/Scranton Prep), Casey Morgan (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), and Donja Tripp (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) combined to swim the 200-medley relay in 1:47.60 for the win.

Morgan won the 100-back with a time of 57.85. Morgan then swam one-two in the 200-back with Aubree-Clare Alewine-Flores (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson). The duo swam 2:07.19 and 2:10.07.

Tripp and Sonya Mishakova (Bali, Indonesia/Australian Independent School Bali) finished one-two in the 50-free, swimming 24.04 and 24.88.

Rachel Hutchins (Elkridge, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) won the 100-fly with a time of 58.29.

– Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port) took second in the 200-free and the 500-free.
– Chloe Cheevers (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) was third in the 100-breast and second in the 200-breast.
– Ava Smith (Vineland, NJ/Cumberland County Tech) was second in the 200-fly.
– Campbell Dopler (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf) was second on the 1-meter and the 3-meter.
– Mishakova added a second-place swim in the 100-free.

EASTON, PA – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team picked up a dual meet win Thursday night in their regular season finale, topping Lafayette, 165-134. The Broncs improve to 4-4 on the year.

Rider won nine events in the meet.

To open the meet, Riley Rowan (Simpsonville, SC/Clonlara), Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional), Tivon Benjamin (Palm Bay, FL/St. Anthony’s Secondary School), and Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) swam 1:31.57 in the 200-medley relay to earn the victory.

The Broncs swept the 100-back with Sebastian Canosa (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), Rowan, and Zach McKatten (West Milford, NJ/Passaic County Technical Vocational School), swimming 50.87, 51.49, and 52.12.

Ruddy and Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) went one-two in the 100-breast with times of 55.45 and 55.92. Ruddy added another win in the 50-free, stopping the clock at 21.27. Connelly beat out Ruddy in the 200-breast with the duo still finishing one-two with times of 2:01.42 and 2:05.02.

Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) won the 200-fly, touching the wall at 1:53.86. Rogowski then led a sweep of the 100-fly with Benjamin and James Bugianesi (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan). The trio touched the wall in 50.27, 50.28, and 51.09.

Dawid Turos (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield) won the 100-free in 46.08.

In the 200-back, Joey Milhomens (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) and Canosa swam one-two with times of 1:51.39 and 1:53.37.
