Australian Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers recently revealed on social media that he underwent another surgery, this time on his right ankle and toe.
“Screws, tightrope, and loose bone finally out of my ankle and toe today. Excited to have my full plantar flexion back – kicking and diving’s about to get a whole lot easier.”

Chalmers didn’t identify exactly where his injury stemmed from but he’s certainly no stranger to the operating table.
This surgery is just another among many that the 27-year-old new father has undergone throughout his career. In the past, the sprint ace has had multiple heart surgeries to address his Supraventricular Tachycardia condition. He’s also had surgery conducted on his shoulder, and full ankle surgery last year to repair three torn ligaments suffered while playing Australian Rules Football (AFL).
Remarkably, Chalmers consistently recovers from each procedure and continues doing damage in the pool. He is a nine-time Olympic medalist and fourteen-time World Championships medalist, including reaping bronze in the 100 free this year in Singapore.
He most recently made headlines by rejecting a potentially multi-million dollar offer to join the controversial Enhanced Games.

Not related, but does anyone know if Titmus is already back training with the St Peters crew?
She announced earlier this year that she will slowly start in May and then be fully into it by July, but it looks like she hasn’t started at all based on her IG.
Not sure she will be back sadly
Get better mate
That’s saying that he stroked and kicked to have become a bronze medalist in Singapore as a de-facto injurer with foreign objects like screws etc. in his body.
He had guts and grits….
This was just surgery to remove prior placed hardware. This is done sometimes if the hardware is no longer needed and bothersome or limiting, which he seems to suggest it was. This should mostly just be incisions that need to heal.
Indeed, there is no ‘fat’ around your ankle and foot, and a screw head can usually be felt under the skin….not very nice.
I think he’s an absolute warrior but given a fair amount of his injuries/surgeries are from him playing aussie rules every so often when he knows he’s injury prone I also think he’s an absolute muppet aswell
I hope he recovers quickly!
kinda incredible the pure amount of surgeries he’s had being in a non-physical sport.
Well I wonder how many were caused by swimming, vs. extracurriculars like rugby and football, vs. just nature i.e. some of the heart surgeries he’s needed
Swimmers out of water are notoriously breakable klutzes. Scooters, bicycles, breakdancing, basketball, exiting a vehicle, walking and chewing gum at the same time have all injured swimmers.
If he’s having screws taken out of his ankle, my guess is that this is a follow up to the “full ankle surgery” (whatever that means) that repaired the torn ligaments.
Anyway, this guy is a beast. I hope he has a full recovery.
Read the damn note. Idiot
Do you mean “non-contact”? Swimming is very much physically laborious
