Day three prelims of the 2025 Hungarian National Swimming Championships were a little on the quiet side compared to the previous two days, although multiple swimmers staked their claims on gold for tonight’s main event.
22-year-old Hubert Kos continued his momentum into today’s 50m fly, hitting a near-lifetime best en route to capturing the top seed. He’s already been on fire with new national records in the 50m and 100m backstrokes.
Kos of the Texas Longhorns stopped the clock at a swift 23.63 to land lane four, producing a time just .12 outside his PB of 23.51 logged at the 2024 European Championships.
Fellow Olympic champion Kristof Milak cruised to the 2nd seed with an effort of 23.74 while last night’s 50m free victor, Szebsztian Szabo, rounded out the top 3 performers in 23.93.
Szonja Szokol was the quickest athlete in the heats of the women’s 50m fly, producing an AM swim of 27.35.
That holds a slight advantage over Flora Molnar who touched in 27.64 and Beatrix Tanko who notched 27.65 to rank 3rd.
Indiana’s NCAA champion Zalan Sarkany set himself apart from the men’s 400m IM field with a heats result of 4:19.35.
He’ll need to drop that down to within range of his lifetime best of 4:15.16 in order to qualify for the World Championships. The World Aquatics ‘A’ standard sits at 4:17.48.
16-year-old Vivien Jackl, straight off the Pro Swim Series in Sacramento, is one of the competitors to beat in the women’s 4IM. She nabbed the 2nd-seeded position in 4:48.30.
Earning top honors was Viktoria Mihalyvari-Farkas who touched in 4:45.63 this morning.
Additional Notes
- Jackl had earlier raced in the women’s 200m free and finished 7th overall in 2:04.94. Taking the top seed was Nikolett Padar, who has been subdued so far in this competition. She claimed lane 4 in 2:01.87.
- David Betlehem notched a morning effort of 1:50.34 to lead the men’s 200m free, although newly-minted 400m free national record holder Kristof Rasovszky is right behind in 1:50.54.
Summer league meet
Smh
Milak 47.80 relay split.
Nemeth 47.77
Hubi 48.76 lead-off – a small PB for him.
People were talking about Milak v.s. Kos and forgot who the 50 fly national record holder is lol.
Yeah neither Milak nor Kos were particularly fast today. That 100 is probably going to be more interesting tomorrow.
Considering that he was 50.84 in the 100fly at a pro swim last year, at some point – he’ll probably put up a 50.low. Maybe at this meet, maybe at another one
He was 0.84 seconds faster here in the 100 back than at that pro swim. If he drops that much in the 100 fly that’s 50.00 – although I don’t see that happening.
I thought that was Shaine Casas that was 50.84
That was this year. Hubert’s was last year.
Prediction: 23.29 in finals
