Day six of the 2025 World Championships saw the final of the women’s 100m freestyle unfold.
The podium consisted of Dutch national record holder Marrit Steenbergen who reaped gold in 52.55 to become the first repeat world champion from Doha to Singapore.
Silver went to the 200m free champion here, Mollie O’Callaghan in Australia who clocked 52.67 while American Torri Huske earned bronze in 52.89.
Further down the line in 5th place, however, was Daria Klepikova of Russia.
Competing as a neutral athlete here, the 20-year-old knocked down her own Russian record notched just last night in the semi-finals.
Klepikova registered a mark of 52.98 to score her first-ever result under the 53-second barrier.
Last night’s semi-final saw the Russian hit a new national benchmark of 53.14 so Klepikova was able to drop another .16 to check in with a 52.98.
In the split comparison, Klepikova was notably quicker on the front half this time around and held on to come within .18 of the 27.42 she put up last night on the final lap.
| Klepikova’s New Russian Record – 52.98 | Klepikova’s Old Russian Record – 53.14 |
| 25.38 | 25.72 |
| 27.60 | 27.42 |
Klepikova already ripped a huge Russian record in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m butterfly. Her time of 56.42 destroyed the previous national benchmark of 57.17 Svetlana Chimrova established at the 2017 Russian Championships.
In that 1fly event, Klepikova settled for 5th place in a final result of 56.63.
